  The Township Ambulance Authority is committed to providing exceptional pre-hospital emergency medical services while promoting education for emergency medical providers and the communities we serve.

Proudly serving nine townships in Antrim County—Central Lake, Chestonia, Custer, Forest Home, Helena, Kearney, Mancelona, Star, and Warner—our dedicated team is available to deliver prompt, professional, and compassionate care when it matters most.

  Our team is made up of experienced EMS professionals from across the state, bringing together a wide range of backgrounds, specialties, and real-world experience. Alongside seasoned instructors, we're proud to include the next generation of EMS leaders and providers, creating a dynamic learning environment that blends proven expertise with fresh perspectives. Together, we're committed to preparing confident, capable providers through high-quality, hands-on education.

Melissa Johnson

System Director

Melissa began a career in Emergency Medical Services in 2010 and earned paramedic licensure in 2012. After starting in the Flint area and serving with multiple EMS agencies, she brought her experience to Northern Michigan, where she continued to provide compassionate patient care while taking on increasing leadership responsibilities.

Drawing on both field and previous leadership experience, Melissa was appointed Assistant Director in 2023 and recently transitioned into the role of Director. She is committed to supporting the team, fostering professional growth, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care to the communities Township Ambulance Authority serves.

Ben Slagle

Assistant Director

With 16 years of experience in Emergency Medical Services, Ben has served with multiple EMS agencies in a variety of clinical and leadership roles. He has been committed to supporting staff, promoting operational excellence, and ensuring the delivery of compassionate, high-quality patient care. His  experience in the field, combined with a passion for leadership, education, and continuous improvement, helps foster a strong team dedicated to serving the community.

Eric Hall

Education Coordinator

Eric is a dedicated Paramedic IC with years of experience and a passion for education. As a multi-faceted instructor with a Master's in Education, he elevates the standard of training at Township Ambulance Authority. His commitment to excellence ensures that every team member is well-prepared and equipped to provide the best care possible. Eric's expertise and leadership make a significant impact on the community and the future of emergency medical services.
